Audrey Hepburn met Mel Ferrer at a cocktail party hosted by Audrey’s “Roman Holiday” co-star Gregory Peck. When they met, the actress had recently broken off an engagement, and Ferrer was fresh off his third divorce. Despite their previous unlucky romances, it was clear that the two actors were mad about each other. They went on to star in several Broadway productions together, one of which earned Audrey a Tony Award. Ferrer proposed to the legendary actress in 1954 and they got married only a few weeks following their engagement.

Audrey is best known for her simple, refined, and elegant sense of style. Audrey Hepburn’s engagement ring from first husband Mel Ferrer perfectly reflects her notoriously good taste. Purchased from Gübelin of Zurich, the ring is a svelte platinum eternity band that features glittering baguette diamonds in a channel setting.

At the wedding, she was also given two wedding bands. Each were simple and elegant eternity bands decorated in a faceted pattern, although one was made of white gold and the other was made of rose gold. True to her style, Audrey only ever wore one these three rings at a time, preferring to always keep her style sophisticated and streamlined.

The Wedding

In September of 1954, the famous couple tied the knot in a beautiful chapel near their shared home in Burgenstock, Switzerland. The celebrated fashionista wore a tea-length bridal gown designed by Pierre Balmain and accented the look with a flower crown comprised of white roses.
