Vintage Platinum Engagement Ring Circa 1930

The September ring is a vintage platinum engagement ring from the Art Deco era circa 1930! This gorgeous ring centers a GIA Certified old European cut diamond weighing 2.18 carats of K color, SI1 clarity. The diamond is bezel set in a platinum setting flanked by 3 bead set diamonds amidst scrolling sides with unique open metalwork and fine millegrain detail! In profile view, the sides have lovely hand engravings! The ring is size 5 and can be resized!

WHY WE LOVE IT

The September ring is super low profile while being super highbrow and absolutely Art Deco! 😍 The diamond really stands out in its thin bezel setting, but this vintage platinum engagement ring is fascinating all the way around! The chunky facets of the center diamond are further accented by the adjacent bead-set stones in the shimmering open metalwork. The swirling patterns attract the eye to discover the intricate millegrain details, hand engraving, and a lovely clover metalwork pattern on the underside of the diamond. Together, the interplay of various line patterns really characterize the Art Deco period!

THE RISE OF PLATINUM

While platinum was first used thousands of years ago in some Egyptian jewelry, it didn’t gain popularity in European jewelry until the late 1700s. Its name comes from the Spanish word platina, which translates to “little silver.” However, at the time, few truly knew how valuable the material would be—even more than silver or gold!

Platinum is one of the purest and rarest materials on Earth. Its luster, resistance to corrosion, and malleability make it a prime choice for jewelry, especially engagement rings. Platinum reached new popularity during the Art Deco period, and jewelers soon discovered its malleability was ideal for developing the beautiful millegrain technique we see in the September ring!

THE VALUE AND BENEFITS OF VINTAGE PLATINUM

Aside from its beauty and rich history, platinum is a great investment. Because it’s so rare, it retains a high value. It remains a popular choice for jewelry for its resistance to tarnish and the fact that it’s a hypoallergenic material. Platinum is especially ideal for vintage engagement rings because it has lasted this long and will continue to last for generations to come!
